War
“Not all battles raise their voice.”
Heart Numb
I had to stay drunk
to keep up with
the rest of them.
“Some habits begin as shields.”
I would drink
until my heart was numb,
until the feeling
wasn’t recognizable.
I had to stay drunk
to keep up with
the rest of them.
Not knowing
how it feels
when she’s the only thing
that makes you want
to breathe.
In a dream,
doing robberies.
My heart
was harder than me.
Empty your pockets.
Lemme see.
Survival of the fittest.
Mobb Deep.
No Return Address
We all revisit old pain from time to time. This reflection is about learning when memory becomes a place you no longer live—choosing movement, optimism, and forward motion over emotional time travel.
“Healing isn’t forgetting.
It’s choosing not to go back.”
We all time-travel back to the pain
once in a while.
I used to live there.
Visited often.
Stayed too long.
Now I live my life.
I travel.
I exercise.
I smile.
I laugh at myself.
I choose optimism on purpose.
So going back there—
that’s no longer an option.
